When you attempt to quit these substances, your body will experience some withdrawal symptoms that will range in severity. Oftentimes, individuals with these addictions will have had experience feeling these negative side effects when they stop using drugs or alcohol which can create barriers to people wanting to enter into detox to avoid feeling the negative side effects and symptoms. Depending on the severity of your addiction, you may be invited to participate in a MAT program to assist in alleviating the severe withdrawal symptoms and allow you to remain focused on your recovery journey. During a MAT program, patients are provided with FDA-approved medications such as methadone, buprenorphine, or naltrexone that will minimize any cravings for their substance of choice and reduce the severity of their withdrawal symptoms.  As you move through your detox program, you will have the ongoing supervision of medical professionals that will monitor your progress within the MAT program. As you continue to advance through your detox stage and overcome withdrawal symptoms, you will be monitored through a slow tapering-off process from the medications to allow you to establish a new lifestyle in addiction recovery.
